Not that I ever visited Starbucks with any frequency, but they now offer nut milk alternatives to dairy as an option.  Now if you are a Starbucks regular, you are probably thinking they are providing you a better alternative.  Not being a dairy source, there is no concern of dairy related symptoms like increased phlegm and congestion.  Yet know this.  When you place that order for coconut milk instead of regular milk, you are doing so under a false sense of security that it is a better option.

Choosing coconut milk at Starbucks poses its own risk.  You are not getting what you think you are.  This is not unique to Starbucks.  They are just providing what is in demand.  Same goes for other coffee shops.  The burden here lies at the feet of the consumer.  Your willingness to accept a nut milk alternative to dairy as better simply because it is a different is leading you astray.  You must look deeper.  Nut milk alternatives to dairy can be better, but only if you know how to select them.

Let’s get real.  Everyone likes something sweet from time to time.  When you get ready to satisfy your sweet tooth, finding an option generally does not pose a challenge.  Sugar is fairly easy to find.  Yet, it is not the only option.  There are a long list of sugar substitutes now.  Some are better than others.  One of the more common is xylitol.

What is Xylitol?

Xylitol, pronounced, “Zi-li-tall”, is a commonly used sugar substitute.  If you have never tried it, you really are missing out.  It is sweet.  But is not a sugar as we often think about sugar.  Comparing xylitol vs. sugar, there are some ironic similarities.  Initially it may seem there are more similarities than differences.  Observing a bowl of sugar and a bowl of xylitol does not highlight any obvious differences.  However, that is where it ends.

Your Diet vs. My Dog’s Diet – Who Win’s?  I am going to put your diet to the test.  Is your diet better or worse than my dog’s?  That is the question.

I should probably tell you starting out that I feed my dog’s really well.  Are you worried yet?  Let’s see how you do.

Just to boost your confidence and make you feel like you have a real chance of your diet beating my dog’s diet, I am going to give you an automatic 2 points.  One, you don’t eat off of the floor.  Two, you don’t get a crazed stare in your eyes at the site of food.  There you go, a legitimate 2-0 start for you.  Let’s see if my pups can catch up.
